Shift – A Pub with Great Food in HSR Layout

Shift pub and restaurant is located in HSR layout. The location is easy to find and it’s a rooftop place on the 4th floor. As rooftops bars are in trend these days, it’s a nice addition to it. What makes this place really special is the food they serve. While the drinks are above average and the ambience has nothing great or exceptional, it’s the food which compensates for it.

This place is quite close to my home so with some of my friends I visited Shift on a fine evening to try some of their signature cocktails and food. I was warmly greeted by the staff upon arrival so I could say that they welcome the guests well.

ORDER, TASTE, AND QUALITY:
I sipped most of their signature cocktails and tried the red wine sangria. The cocktails I tried were Lipstick On The Collar, Cream Orgasm, Purple Haze, Wine Fill, Watermelon Martini, Litchi Martini, Cucumber Cooler, and Bitter Collins.

I also sipped the Virgin Colada mocktail and Red Wine Sangria. All these drinks tasted better with the bar bites. They had many options in it and I tried the Masala Chana Dal.

In starters, I tried Open Sesame, Captain’s Stuff, Chilly Out Chicken, and Traditional Tandoori Chicken.

In main course, I had Veg Ratatouille with Herbed Rice, Spinach Pizza, Chicken Pizza, Guntur Chicken with Coin Paratha, and Chicken Biryani.

In desserts, I tried Coconut Malibu Panacotta and Gulab Jamun with Ice Cream.

Among the cocktails, I liked Purple Haze, Litchi Martini, Watermelon Martini, Wine Fill, and Cucumber Cooler. Other cocktails were average. Purple Haze and Cucumber Cooler were very refreshing and the taste of alcohol was balanced.

Virgin Colada was made the way it is supposed to. It was tasty and refreshing.

The Red Wine Sangria was awesome! It was really good in taste and the quality of wine used was superb. Lot of fruits were added ti it and the flavour was subtle.

Special mention for the bar bites, it absolutely served the purpose well.

Veg Ratatouille was amazingly good. I usually don’t eat much of vegetarian food in a pub but this was a yummy preparation and I enjoyed it.

Both the vegetarian and non vegetarian pizzas were superb! Absolutely delicious! Thin crust with the right flavours, heavenly. They added generous amount of cheeze on the pizzas and it was really authentic. It’s not so easy to get such good pizzas in a pub. I loved the pizzas and can come again just to savor them.

Guntur Chicken with Coin Paratha was a spicy and flavourful dish. It was authentic and aromatic. I liked the taste. Coin paratha was also good.

Chicken biryani was a pleasant surprise as it was so good that it matched some of the speciality biryani joints in terms of taste and quality. It was delicious, the spices and flavours were perfect! I didn’t expect such a tasty biryani at a pub but yes, it is. I relished the biryani and had a great experience with their food.

Coconut Malibu Panacotta was mind blowing. So yummy! I liked the taste and presentation.

Gulab Jamun with Ice Cream was as usual but the presentation was really nice.

SERVICE AND AMBIENCE:
The service is quite slow and it took some time for them to prepare as well. Although, the staff is polite and courteous. They need to improve on the service.

Ambience is just OK but not too good or exceptional for a pub. It’s not that classy and the interiors and walls are just basic. It’s a rooftop place on 4th floor so the view from it is great. You can see the surrounding places and roads.

Smise – A New Café in Koramangala, Bangalore

Smise is a new name in the long list of cafés in Koramangala, Bangalore. Newly opened and situated strategically near Sony signal in Koramangala, Bangalore, the location is excellent and on the main road itself. So, reaching this place is not difficult, as they have an advertisement board at the front of the building. I went on an invitation and along with a group of food bloggers, so I got a chance to taste many of their delectable food items. It’s rooftop cafe, which provides a choice of two seating areas, covered and an open area as well.

Smise has an elaborate and well-constructed menu and they serve some lip-smacking food items. The primary cuisines they serve are Mediterranean, American, and Italian. They also have board games and foosball to play and a good collection of novels. These fun activities are available for free and there are no extra charges for it, which is a plus point. This cafe is easy on the pocket too.

ORDER, TASTE, AND QUALITY:

I tried a variety of food items including salad, starters, pizza, and main course. They also have a collection of thirst-quenching mocktails and yummy desserts, which I savoured to end my experience on a refreshing and sweet note.

SALAD:
Although, they have a good variety of salads in their menu, I had the Honey Citrus Salad, which was prepared with refreshing citrus flavours. It was amazing and a must-try item there.

They have some delicious items in their menu and my personal favourites are Chicken Drumsticks, Pita and Hummus, Fish and Chips, and Masala Fries.
Panko Crumb Fried Chicken Tender is also delicious! A special mention for Bacon Wrapped Cajun Prawns, it is delectable and a must-try delicacy.

PIZZA:
I tried their Exotic Veg Pizza. It was yummy, and they had added a generous amount of Veg toppings on it.

MOCKTAILS:
In mocktails, we had Double Berry Cooler, Oreo shake, Virgin Mojito, Virgin Bloody Mary, Cinderella, and Chilli Mocker.
I loved the taste of Virgin Bloody Mary and Double Berry Cooler. All the other drinks are also good.

DESSERTS:
I had the Apple Cobbler with Vanilla Ice Cream and Caramel Sauce, Strawberry Cheesecake, and Brownie with Vanilla Ice Cream and Fudge Sauce.
I liked the Brownie and Apple Cobbler.
